TYPO3 Composable
High-Performance Migration

Free yourself from the TCO trap. We migrate your TYPO3 system to a modern headless/composable setup with Astro or Next.js — for loading speeds under 1 second and up to 65% lower maintenance costs.

Why Pragma-Code

Leaving the sluggish monolith behind.

Classic CMS monoliths like TYPO3 tie up substantial IT budgets due to expensive ELTS license fees and complex major upgrades. We use automated ETL migration pipelines to export your TYPO3 content without loss and transfer it to a future-proof, decoupled Composable architecture with Astro or Next.js. This permanently reduces your TCO and brings your Core Web Vitals into the green zone.

Scope · What is included

What a migration really covers.

Moving the content is the easy part. The work sits in everything attached to it — and that is where relaunches fail.

Content & page tree

Pages, content elements, files and categories are read from the TYPO3 database and mapped into a new content model. Multilingual installations with separate page trees are not an exception but a cost driver — every language relation must survive, otherwise hreflang relationships break.

Custom extensions

The most honest point: custom Extbase extensions cannot be migrated, they get rebuilt. The same goes for TypoScript configuration that has no counterpart in the new stack. We review them before quoting and separate what is genuinely needed from what simply accumulated over the years.

URLs & redirects

Every indexed URL gets a target — including those from RealURL or speaking-URL days and those carrying parameters. The basis is a reconciliation of crawl, Search Console and server logs so that pages no longer linked internally still surface. One forgotten redirect costs exactly the ranking the migration was meant to preserve.

Forms, search, integrations

Whatever hangs off the TYPO3 core has no counterpart in the new stack and gets replaced: forms including recipient logic and double opt-in, internal search, newsletter integration, protected areas with login. Having that list complete before the price is fixed is the difference between a fixed fee and change requests.

Bringing editors along

Anyone who worked in the TYPO3 backend for years will not find their way around a headless CMS by themselves. So training is part of it and, where it fits, the system is chosen for the editors' daily work rather than developer taste. A migration after which nobody maintains content has failed.

Free system audit upfront

Before any quote we look at the installation: TYPO3 version and support status, number of pages and languages, installed versus actually used extensions, extent of custom development. That produces an effort estimate — and occasionally the recommendation to stay on TYPO3 for now.

FAQ · Frequently Asked

Questions on TYPO3 Modernization.

Answers to the most important questions about replacing and migrating TYPO3 systems.

Is it possible to migrate from TYPO3 to Astro/Next.js without data loss?
Yes, absolutely. We use automated migration scripts (ETL pipelines) to extract and transfer your structured content, news, user data, and media assets to the new system with precision.
What happens to my Google rankings after the migration?
Your rankings remain protected. We perform a complete 1:1 URL mapping and configure server-side 301 redirects at the edge (e.g., Cloudflare or Vercel) to ensure no SEO value is lost.
Can I still manage my content myself after the migration?
Yes. We connect a user-friendly Headless CMS (such as Strapi, Sanity, or Storyblok). Your editors can modify content just as easily as, or even more easily than, in TYPO3 – without any technical expertise.
How high are the recurring costs after the migration?
Recurring costs drop dramatically. Since static Astro/Next.js pages are hosted serverless (often for free on Vercel or Netlify), expensive dedicated database servers are no longer needed. Expensive TYPO3 major upgrades are also a thing of the past.
How long does a typical TYPO3 migration project take?
Depending on the complexity and the number of pages and extensions, a project typically takes between 4 and 10 weeks. Thanks to our incremental migration approach, you will see working prototypes within the first few weeks.
What does a TYPO3 migration cost?
We start at €3,500 and quote per project, because effort almost never tracks page count. The cost drivers are: number of custom extensions, multilingual setups, form and login flows, and the volume of indexed legacy URLs. A 200-page site without custom development is cheaper than a 40-page one with three grown Extbase extensions. The free system audit upfront turns that into a firm number rather than a range.
Our TYPO3 version is reaching end of life. Migrate or upgrade?
Both are legitimate, and the answer depends on the state of the installation. After regular support ends, TYPO3 offers paid Extended Long Term Support — that buys time, not new substance. An upgrade pays off when the installation is well maintained, contains little custom development and your team works well with the backend. A migration pays off when a redesign is due anyway, the extensions are outdated, or your content should serve several channels in future. After the audit we tell you which of the two is cheaper in your case.
What happens to our custom extensions?
They are not migrated but replaced — the point quotes like to skip. Extbase code, Fluid templates and TypoScript have no counterpart in the new stack. In practice the audit regularly reveals that part of it is no longer used at all. Whatever remains is itemised as a visible cost so you can decide whether the feature is worth the price.
How long is the site unavailable during the switch?
Not at all. The new system is built in parallel on its own address, approved and tested there; only then does the switch happen. The actual cutover is a DNS change, and the old system stays as a fallback until the new one runs stably for several days. No maintenance window or holding page is needed.
When do you advise against migrating?
When the TYPO3 installation is well maintained, still in support, contains little custom development and your team is happy with it — then a version upgrade is the cheaper route and we say so. Likewise when a relaunch is being considered only because the site looks dated: a new front end on the existing system often solves that for a fraction of the cost. Migration is a means, not an end in itself.
